GDR artist Strawalde (90) receives prize

The 90-year-old artist Jürgen Böttcher, alias Strawalde, will be awarded the Jerg Ratgeb Prize tomorrow in Reutlingen. Born in Saxony, Böttcher is considered one of the most famous painters and documentary filmmakers in the GDR. He got his pseudonym Strawalde after the name of a place from his childhood. Some of his films had been banned from broadcasting in the GDR. The award is endowed with 20,000 euros.
