Salah and van Dijk injured off the field
However, the injuries to two top performers are cause for concern: Mo Salah had to leave the field after just half an hour with a groin injury. The injured Virgil van Dijk couldn’t play the game to the end either, but then gave the all-clear: “I felt something on my knee in the first half and didn’t want to take any more risks in extra time. Hopefully nothing bad” he said at “Guardians“.
But Liverpool’s joy outweighed the eighth cup win, the first in 16 years: “That’s the trophy we haven’t won as a team yet. We’ve waited a long time, too long.”
