Boy (17) dies on Liberation Day after hardstyle festival: ‘It is very sad news’ | Inland

A 17-year-old boy from Bunschoten died last week after he became unwell at liberation festival Dance4Liberation in Zwolle. The police confirmed that. A detective team is investigating the case.

The student visited the event at the Wythmenerplas on 5 May, where 30,000 hardstyle and dance lovers went crazy on Gunz for Hire, Ronnie Flex, Bizzey and Sicknight. He unexpectedly becomes unwell and has to be taken away. He died in hospital that same evening.

Festival organizer John Althoff is gutted about the incident. “It is very sad news. Your thoughts go directly to the parents who lost their child.”

Police investigation

Althoff says he is not yet aware of a police investigation into the circumstances of the boy’s death. “Of course it’s good if they do.” Like all festivals in the Netherlands, Dance4Liberation also has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to narcotics.

According to a spokesperson for the East Netherlands police, the investigation focuses on the possible use of narcotics. “It doesn’t have to be that way. We’re still investigating the case. In such a case, we want to be able to rule out that someone can be held responsible for the death.”
