On the morning of September 8, Clarinda texted Jeffrey. She said she wanted to end the relationship permanently. “It’s time to accept that. I spent hours trying to explain it to you face-to-face.”

That same day, he stabbed the 34-year-old mother with a knife several times. She died on the spot. Their 1-year-old child was with the mother at the time of the stabbing. They had been staying with family in Den Bosch for quite some time. The child was unharmed. Bystanders arrested the fleeing Van den D. and handed him over to the police.

Van den D. indirectly admitted with his statement during an earlier session that he stabbed his ex. Clarinda is said to have ended the relationship because her boyfriend had previously abused her. From no fewer than 78,000 chats that the couple sent to each other, the police conclude that the suspect once stabbed her with a key and bit in the neck.

Diaries

Both suspect and victim kept a diary in the months before the stabbing. The police found three at Van den D. „I am angry, I want to hurt her. I feel abandoned and alone. She’s lying, she’s going to leave me. I feel lonely and alone.”

The victim first worked as a family coach at Youth Protection. In recent years she has worked as a board investigator at the Child Protection Board. Jeffrey van den D. worked as a children’s coach and homework tutor in his own practice in Utrecht.
