Former Ajax player Jody Lukoki, who passed away yesterday morning at the age of 29, will be commemorated with a minute of silence just before Ajax-Heerenveen. Ajax players will also play with a mourning band during the match.
Lukoki went through Ajax’s youth academy and played in the first three seasons after his debut in the Arena. This season, the winger was under contract with FC Twente. After a conviction for domestic violence, he had to leave there in February.
Nothing has been officially released about Lukoki’s cause of death. It was announced later in the day yesterday that he would have ended up in hospital after an assault last week. During an operation, in which a leg had to be amputated, he subsequently died of cardiac arrest.
