Police make sure Johnny Depp and Amber Heard don’t run into each other

Throughout the defamation trial, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard remained in their respective sections of the courtroom. Here, the staff and police officers make sure that Depp and Heard never meet when they leave the courtroom.

Strictly regulated process

It is no coincidence that the two actors have only rarely met each other in the courtroom: in cooperation with the security teams, meticulous care is taken to ensure that the two parties do not see each other or at least do not meet closely. When the court goes on a lunch break, Depp and Heard are taken to opposite ends of the courthouse. There, officers stand ready to escort them to their own safe areas away from public view. Here, the entrances and exits are guarded by court officials who work with their security teams to ensure they do not see each other.

Different reactions after eye contact

On May 5, things didn’t go as smoothly as usual and Amber Heard and Johnny Depp faced each other for a moment, albeit with enough distance between them. Right after Heard finished her testimony, there was a break to allow everyone to go to lunch. At that moment, Heard and Depp looked at each other for a moment. However, a police officer asked Depp to step down so Heard could return to her seat along with her legal team. Eventually, after Heard backed away from the exit, Depp was allowed to leave the place.

In the following video you can see the moment of visual contact. Heard looks scared, while Depp only shrugs at the encounter with his ex.

The process has been paused since this Friday until May 16th. During the week-long hiatus, Amber Heard is not allowed to consult with any of her attorneys as she is still in the midst of testifying. The closing arguments will take place on May 27th. After that, the jury begins deliberating.
