Horne new national karate coach

After his injury shock at the Olympics in Tokyo, karate world champion Jonathan Horne has found a new job.

The 33-year-old has been appointed by the German Karate Association (DKV) as the new head trainer for women and men and for the U21 age group in Kumite. Horne holds a qualified trainer’s license and succeeds Thomas Nitschmann. He will be assisted by Alexander Heimann and Mark Haubold.

Horne had torn several ligaments in his right arm in a fall at the Olympic premiere of karateka in Tokyo in his second preliminary round fight against the Georgian Gogita Arkania. The seven-time European champion Horne, who was considered the top favorite for gold in his class, lay screaming on the mat with a pained face.

“Holding this post is a great honor for me. I feel like giving something back of my experience to the association, but also to the athletes,” said Horne.
