These sandboxes are at the Buytenpark for this

During a walk or bike ride on the Meerpad along the beautiful Buytenpark you can just stumble upon these sandboxes. Can you park your bike there, walk your dog or is it a lookout point? We went to investigate.

At a number of places along the walking and cycling path we see the sandboxes. The sand is slightly uphill on a slope and there are wooden posts around it.

Important for our existence

Along the Meerpad is a bee line with, among other things, bee hotels. These hotels are intended for so-called mason bees. They make nests between and in the pinecones in the hotel. The sand mountains are built for digging or sand bees. They are less and less able to survive in our tidy landscape. They prefer to nest in sand, so that’s why special places have been built for the bees. More bees simply means more pollination, insects, birds and other animals. All important for our existence!

Because the bee plays an important role in this, the municipality wants to help the bees. With bee roundabouts, planting and bee hotels throughout the city, we ensure that more bees can survive.
