Salzburg, May 6th. 2022 – As part of the 2022 Miami Grand Prix, held at the Dolphins Stadium, AlphaTauri is collaborating with Miami-based artist Jay Bellicchi, known as REMOTE, on a special art project. A Scuderia AlphaTauri F1 show car becomes an art car by spraying on a unique graffiti. It is inspired by the colors of the AlphaTauri spring/summer collection for 2022 and the unusual district of Wynwood in Miami.
Parallel to the art project, the same graffiti design will also appear on the headrests of the two AT03 cars that will compete in the Miami Grand Prix. In addition, REMOTE surprised Scuderia AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda with a special helmet finish for the race, matching the design language of the headrest and the show car.
“We are very excited about this special collaboration with this talented artist, where fashion meets Formula 1! The design reflects the mood of our current collection and fits perfectly into the summer atmosphere of Miami. This little extra is our way of saying thank you to all our great supporters and fans, without whom the past successful season would not have been possible,” says Ahmet Mercan, CEO of AlphaTauri.
Two days before the race, Scuderia AlphaTauri drivers Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda caught up with REMOTE to get a first look at the F1 show car and learn more about the arts scene in Miami. During their visit, the two riders challenged each other and insisted on showing off their personal graffiti skills, each spray-painting their own design onto a monochrome helmet. The helmets will be digitized as NFTs and auctioned off to raise money for the Wings For Life foundation.
The show car will be on display throughout the race weekend at the newly built Red Bull Energy Station, which was designed exclusively for the Miami Grand Prix and seats more than 3,000 spectators. Jay Bellicchi, the artistic talent behind this creation, is part of the art collective ARTPLUG. He is a renowned Miami artist, designer and creative known for his distinctive combination of graphic design and graffiti culture.
REMOTE: “I was incredibly excited when I got the opportunity to work with AlphaTauri and the Formula 1 team on this great and crazy project. I have to say that getting my art onto the beautifully sculpted surface of an F1 racing car rather than flat walls was a whole new challenge for me, but I’m very happy with the result. I’m also very proud that my design will be featured on the current race cars and on Yuki’s helmet.”
The AlphaTauri color palette, which consists of jade, purple and light blue this spring/summer 2021, has been translated into a fast-paced design for Formula 1 cars. Jay Bellicchi used drawings and moodboards from the AlphaTauri collection to bring the fashion brand’s outstanding precision and craftsmanship to the design. Detailed decorations on the filigree car elements underline how perfectly design and technology are combined in an environment that appreciates style and functionality.
