IJsselmuiden fire brigade delivers fire vehicles in Ukraine

The procession of Dutch fire engines that are donated to Ukraine arrived at their final destination on Tuesday. In the city of Uzhhorod in the extreme southwest of Ukraine, the seven vehicles have been handed over to the local fire brigade, firefighter Simon Doorn, who is part of the tour group, reported.

“We have accomplished our mission. After a short ceremony, the vehicles were handed over to the Uzhhorod (Uzhhorod) Fire Brigade,” Doorn wrote in a short statement on social media. The Dutch also received a kind of certificate from the Ukrainians, in which they are thanked for their “humanitarian mission”.

The procession of five tanker sprayers, one car ladder and a passenger bus with motor sprayer trailer had left IJsselmuiden in the night from Sunday to Monday. The border with Ukraine was crossed on Tuesday via Hungary.

According to Doorn, it was still difficult to return to Hungary after the transfer in Uzhhorod. “Our guide is not allowed to cross the border for the second time,” he wrote in his latest update. “A new driver is now on his way to us to ensure that we cross the border.” According to an online tracking system, the team had arrived at the Hungarian town of Ajak at the end of the evening.

Donating the fire brigade vehicles was an initiative of the IJsselmuiden fire brigade, which has had contacts with firefighters in Ukraine for many years. The war has caused a shortage of fire equipment in the Eastern European country. Earlier, four trailers with, among other things, Dutch fire suits and other material went to Ukraine.
