Carry on with that sandwich. If you think you are sinning, you are actually doing a good job. At least…
‘Mayonnaise wrongly in the dark’
Mayonnaise is made from rapeseed oil, vinegar, egg yolk and water. And yes, it’s fat, but it’s mostly made up of healthy unsaturated fats from vegetable oils, which are better for your cholesterol. Several studies show that replacing saturated fat (such as in butter) with polyunsaturated fats (such as in mayonnaise) is good for your cholesterol and therefore your overall health. Nutritionists and health scientists write this in the book Eat like an expert† This would reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. “Mayonnaise has wrongly been put in the dark at some point,” the experts said.
Slim mayonnaise
But do you want to lose weight? Then know that there are quite a few calories in mayonnaise (128 kcal in 1 tablespoon). In that case, low-fat margarine remains the healthiest choice in view of the line. Although you do have slim mayonnaises, which contain less fat and therefore calories. But the health benefit of mayonnaise mainly comes from those (unsaturated) fats.
Make mayonnaise yourself
An important side note is that quite a few extra ingredients are added to factory mayonnaise to make the sauce last longer. Think of sugar and chemical fragrances, colors and flavors, which make the mayonnaise a lot unhealthier in other areas. Therefore, check the label carefully before you buy the mayonnaise. Or make your own mayonnaise! That’s how you do it, for example. Your other bread toppings are just as important. These are six examples of healthy toppings for your sandwich.
