After 18 years in the active sports business, Babette Peter will be giving up her football boots. The 33-year-old will move to the United States after the season as Real Madrid captain.
Long-serving national soccer player Babett Peter has announced the end of her long, extremely successful career. The 33-year-old wrote on her Instagram account on Monday: an “unforgettable journey” will end in the summer.
Peter has been playing in Spain for three years, first with CD Tacon, which was then taken over by Real Madrid two years ago. “I’d like to be able to decide for myself when I retire – and now is the time after a very successful season as Real Madrid captain,” wrote Peter.
Great soccer career
The defender, who comes from Oschatz near Leipzig, won 118 international matches with the German national team as an Olympic, world and European champion and also won Olympic bronze again.

From 2006 to 2012 she played for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, became champion five times, won the DFB Cup once and won the Champions League in 2010. After stint at 1. FFC Frankfurt (2012 to 2014/one cup win), she moved to VfL Wolfsburg and won three championships and five cups with them.
Peter is engaged to former American soccer player Ella Masar, with whom she played one season in Wolfsburg, and will be moving in with her in the United States after the season.
