The Spanish Caroline Marinwho this Saturday was proclaimed European badminton champion in Madrid for the sixth consecutive time, declared that the gold, after a serious injury that has kept her eleven months away from the courts, has been “to compete again”.
Carolina Marin won 21-10 and 21-12 in the final played on the Gallur track in Madrid over the Scottish Kirsty Gilmour in just 41 minutes.
“I wanted to thank each of the people who are here because it has been incredible to play in Madrid. I have won this gold but also the whole team and without all of you I would not have achieved it”, he said Carolinafrom the center of the track.
After eleven months off the court due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament and the two menisci in her left knee, the Spanish player reappeared in Madrid through the front door.
“The gold was to compete again and I’ve done it. I’m here, I’m back and we’re still here. The injury is forgotten. Now my feeling is one of happiness, not only for winning the championship, which is a consequence of what one does, but for all that it means,” he confessed.
“I dedicate this championship to my entire team and to one person in particular, my father, who is the only one who couldn’t be there,” he commented. Caroline Marinwho revealed that in the hug that occurred with his coach, Ferdinand Rivasat the end of the game, only one word was said: “Thank you”.
“We have had a difficult time with the injury and that is why now I want to enjoy myself. I have very nice things ahead of me and I want to start thinking about the Paris Games, in which I would like to get back on the podium”, he concluded.
