One hundred to one hundred and twenty households in the municipality of Emmen may have accidentally received a letter stating that they are entitled to the energy surcharge. Alderman Raymond Wanders announced this during the council meeting this evening.
In order to absorb the rising energy costs, the government is providing minimum wages with an energy surcharge of 800 euros. “A small group of people received the letter when they shouldn’t have,” said Wanders. “It cannot be said with certainty that they earned a maximum of 120 percent of the social minimum (the minimum someone needs to get by) in February. We deeply regret that this group received the letter.”
According to Wanders, this does not alter the fact that these households can still apply. In the meantime, 54 percent of the households that are entitled to the allowance have received the amount or will receive it before 5 May.
