The European Indoor Football Championship starts in the Netherlands on Wednesday. In the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome, Orange will have to do without an audience due to the corona measures. “A huge loss,” said national coach Max Tjaden.
“We have been working on this tournament since September 2019. If you hear that the Ziggo Dome can accommodate 10,500 spectators and we would tap that in the group matches. We can use that support, but it is not there now”, says Tjaden. Group matches are also played in Groningen’s MartiniPlaza. After 25 January, when the cabinet looks again at possible relaxation, there will still be a public present at the European Championship.
“Since it is known that it will be held here, you thought of a full Ziggo Dome and everything in orange”
“Since it has been known that it will be held here, you have thought of a full Ziggo Dome and everything in orange. Now that is an illusion, but it is just the way it is,” responds player Mats Velseboer. “We have been working towards this for a year and a half. Then it is very sour that no audience can be there. It is extra support that you need. Very disappointed,” said player Amir Molkarai.
On Wednesday at 8.30 pm, the Netherlands will play against Ukraine. On Monday a report can be seen in NH Sport about the North Holland futsal players Amir Molkarai and Mats Velseboer.
