Islands Espadrille is the new boot from the CAMPERLAB, which was created in a limited edition together with the Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI). The distinctive and eponymous “stepping islands” come from the original model, which has been pulled from the Camper archive for the re-edition and reworked with a pointed toe and new shape. The shoe is made of organic cotton and jute, which are hand-woven in Burkina Faso and dyed with natural dyes, and have a sole made of LACTAE HEVEA®, the milk of the rubber tree. The new CAMPERLAB collaboration with EFI is available in beige and yellow.
The collaboration between Camper and the Ethical Fashion Initiative* began in 2015 to combine over 145 years of experience as a shoemaker with the diverse African techniques and materials to create great shoe fashion. Textile production, which is mainly in the hands of local women, gives them access to education and gainful employment, which has a positive effect on local social conditions.
*The Ethical Fashion Initiative is a priority program of the International Trade Center, a joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations, which aims to empower small-scale producers in developing countries by facilitating their access to leading fashion and lifestyle brands.
