“The republic’s nuclear power must be ready to carry out its mission of unique deterrence at any time,” Kim said. “If any military forces try to penetrate our nation’s fundamental interests, our nuclear forces will be forced to unexpectedly launch a second mission,” he added.
The parade also featured the Hwasong-17, North Korea’s largest known intercontinental ballistic missile. The Hwasong-17 was partially tested for the first time last month, but South Korean authorities do not believe North Korea has yet successfully completed a full test of the missile.
