According to the asparagus town, the state garden show in Beelitz has already become a crowd puller. The city said several thousand people had visited the show since it opened on April 14.
Spring bloomers are currently in full bloom, including hyacinths, ranunculus, tulips and daffodils. Guests also enjoyed the water features on the premises. Up to 450,000 visitors are expected by the end of October. More than 400,000 guests came to the State Garden Show in Wittstock/Dosse three years ago.
Beelitz benefits from the state horticultural show in terms of urban development. According to its own statements, the Ministry of Infrastructure provided around seven million euros from urban development funding.
The money will be used to support sustainable projects such as the park at the water tower, the old water mill including Mühlenfliess and the historic cinema, as the department announced on Saturday. These places are on the way from Beelitz-Stadt train station to the garden show and characterize the cityscape. The park at the water tower next to the green areas has been upgraded with a trend sports facility and an outdoor fitness area. A natural swimming pool is to be built.
Funds have also flowed into the renovation of two buildings in the old town, including a listed half-timbered house from the 18th century. The city wants to use it as a museum, among other things. The “Venus Lichtspiele” cinema in the middle of Beelitz, which has been empty for 30 years, has been undergoing renovations since this year and is scheduled to be inaugurated during the State Garden Show. According to the ministry, around 30.4 million euros from urban development funding have been made available for Beelitz (Potsdam-Mittelmark district) since 1991.
The old town has become a flagship of the region, said Mayor Bernhard Knuth on Saturday. With new offers for the growing population and attractions for tourists, the quality of life will continue to increase, he was convinced.
AAround 22 million euros were invested on the Laga site on the edge of Beelitz’ old town. State garden shows in Brandenburg have existed since the year 2000.
