FC Volendam secures promotion to Eredivisie after thriller in Den Bosch Football

Waved goodbye by a group of fanatical supporters left The Other Orange Friday afternoon to Den Bosch to get the job done. After more than twenty minutes of play, Volendam took the lead. After poor defense from the home side after a free kick, Josh Flint made it 0-1. Thanks to Filip Stankovic, Volendam was able to hold onto that lead, because the goalkeeper made an excellent save after Jeremy Cijntje approached him alone.

After half an hour, promotion came very close for the Volendam team, after Robert Mühren doubled the score: 0-2. Still, Den Bosch also remained dangerous and, despite a comfortable lead at halftime, the victory was certainly not yet in the bag for the North Hollanders.

After the break, Volendam waited a bit more and fifteen minutes before the end, the tension returned to the match after Den Bosch’s goal. Sebastiaan van Bakel signed for the 1-2, but otherwise the visitors, despite a huge chance for Damon Mirani at the 2-2, did not let it come. The game was stopped for a while, after unrest broke out in the stands and attributes were thrown on the field, but luckily it could be played out.

And so Volendam is promoted for the tenth (!) time. After the championship in 2007/2008, the club last forced a place in the Eredivisie. Three years ago FC Volendam changed course. There was a new board, a new management and a new head coach: Jonk. His objective was clear. He wanted to bring the club back to the highest level within three years.
