Beddencross makes debut during Oudkarspel’s horse event: “That hill killed us”

At the international Oudkarspel horse event ‘North-Holland Horse Trials’, something new was introduced this weekend: a bed cross. Now no one has to explain to a Langedijker what a bed race is, but the bed cross variant is brand new. The match at Manage Beukers on Sunday afternoon was not over streets, but straight through a ‘meadow’, over a hill and between the obstacles.

No smooth asphalt roads but racing over a meadow, that turned out to be quite a challenge for some participants. “That hill, that hill has killed us”, says one of the participants to media partner Dike and Worth Central know. Another says with a mischievous smile: “Well, my partner’s condition isn’t it.”

Ten couples competed for the honor and went alternately running and lying down through the meadow, over hills and via bridges to the finish line. In the end, only one couple could be the fastest, and that turned out to be Kevin Kater from Noord-Scharwoude and the Waardse Rik Kamphuis. “I’m a little broke, but it feels like a win,” the duo said. “It was heavy, but nice, right?”

“We had an international horse competition all weekend and thought this was a nice way to attract audiences from the region,” says Micha Baron, organizer of North-Holland Horse Trials. “It’s super fun to participate and fun too.”
