Fidan Ekiz is fed up: ‘Op1 is now North Korea TV!’

Fidan Ekiz is tired of the fact that hardly anyone dares to say anything at the table in her talk show Op1. “With us and most other programs, it’s just North Korea TV,” she barks.

Due to the fierce reactions on the internet, Fidan Ekiz notices that people on television are becoming more and more careful with their statements, if they want to join. She thinks it’s a great pity because that way the discussion is silenced. “I am very tired of that,” says the presenter in her program WNL in the Kantine on NPO Radio 1.

shit sick

It’s very high on Fidan. “You just said ‘shit sick’. Well, that’s what I really feel about all the criticism that people get who come on TV and who are guests on talk shows or host talk shows. What it leads to, and what I find so annoying, is that it makes people very boring and very stiff on television.”

She continues: “Everyone that we… Well, not everyone, but a lot of people we get on the talk shows and also colleagues of mine who present say: ‘Yes, you only have to slip once and only once to ask a stupid question, or to cough because that’s also a mortal sin these days – ‘Oh, sit at home when you’re sick!’…”

bullshit

Things are really going in the wrong direction, Fidan fears. “It doesn’t get any better on television. My first reaction was always: ‘No, you are drawing full houses!’ Then I was just very annoyed at everyone who went wild on social media, but now I think: that’s just this time.”

Dan: “Maybe we should go with the times and not care at all about all that bullshit. I discussed that with colleagues yesterday and we said, ‘How nice would it be if we just put in a week where we have the mentality of: we don’t give a fuck!’ Anything you’ve always wanted to say but don’t dare, just do it.”

North Korea

There is actually only one talk show where people really dare to say everything, according to Fidan. “So I really envy those men from VI, because they just say what they think, they say what they want. And with us, most other programs, it’s just North Korea TV.”

Fidan has decided to let himself go completely from now on, so it’s going to be a feast. “We are all very afraid of the people at home and the criticism we can receive. I’ve decided not to care about it at all anymore.”
