It’s allowed again and the Netherlands is doing it again: out at Easter | Inland

It’s allowed again and the Netherlands is doing it full: enjoying the sunny Easter days. It was even so busy on the roads to Scheveningen that the municipality called for people not to come by car anymore.

Last year there was still a curfew during Easter, most church services were attended by a maximum of thirty people, the catering industry was closed and the shops were only open to a limited extent. Today all that is a thing of the past.

It was also busy towards the Keukenhof. According to traffic information from the ANWB, there is a lot of traffic on the N208 between Haarlem and Sassenheim on Easter Sunday. From the connection with the N207 flower lovers should take into account a delay of half an hour. Many people also went to the Bollenstreek on Saturday. Keukenhof previously announced that the tickets are sold out until Monday.

Festivals

Festivals also attracted tens of thousands of people. That was the first time after two years of corona. Easter doll in Schijndel the festival season already kicked off on Friday, Saturday was ‘really a bit too busy’ according to visitors, but today went wild again. There are seventeen stages with all kinds of music styles. The Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, S10, is one of the artists performing today. The dance event Awakenings was held in Spaarnwoude on Saturday and Sunday.

Dozens of Easter fires will be lit in the east of the country tonight. This is a tradition that has existed for centuries in many parts of Europe, from Denmark to Switzerland and Austria in the south. The east of the Netherlands is just part of this area. The fire would traditionally symbolize fertility, but it is also just a party: building something together, lighting it, and having a beer.

Carnival mood

Then there were even smaller activities in countless places. so was in Low Zwaluwe Saturday evening finally an opportunity for the illuminated boat show. Organizer Janet Crezée spoke of a beautiful evening. She hoped to be able to restart the show in 2020, which was connected to the Havenfeesten in Lage Zwaluwe until 2018, but that was not possible due to corona. She is happy with the turnout. ,,The weather is fine and there are many enthusiastic people among participants and spectators. It’s cool that you can create something nice with relatively little effort.”

In the Kempen there was a carnival mood. The lack of a year of carnival and a radiant sun lured hundreds of residents of Netersel from their homes. And so it went today in many villages in the Kempen. During the Easter weekend, the parades and carnival parties alternate. With the highlight on Easter Monday: the large Kempen parade in Hapert.

Many people also went into nature. Staatsbosbeheer called it ‘pleasantly busy in many places’.
