Den Hey-Acker employees are quite shaken after the fatal stabbing in their facility last Friday. A boy (19) died of his injuries, another boy (20) was seriously injured. A fellow prisoner (18) has been arrested. Employees gathered on Saturday afternoon in a staff meeting to discuss and process the event.
“Everyone in Den Hey-Acker is of course excited,” says spokesman René Hut. “But we also see a great deal of involvement and commitment. Saturday afternoon there was a staff meeting, during which the events of Friday were discussed extensively.”
Aftercare
The employees are impressed with what has happened. “A horrific incident like this has an impact on everyone. Where necessary, aftercare is provided to those involved.”
According to Hu, many employees who were free on Friday and Saturday also came to the institution. “To support each other. And to pay attention to the boys who stay with us. That’s nice to see.” According to him, it marks the employees: “They are affected, but also resilient. They will not give up.”
The boys who are detained at Den Hey-Acker are also given the space to process what has happened. “The guys who stay with us talk a lot about what happened and they have every opportunity to call their own families.”
Measures
It is still unclear whether the deadly stabbing will lead to other or new measures within the walls of Den Hey-Acker. “We can’t say anything about that at the moment. The Justice and Security Inspectorate is conducting an investigation, as is usual with serious incidents in a juvenile detention center. If recommendations or points for attention are drawn, we will of course take them on board. the hit.”
