FOOTBALL – ACV Assen unfortunately lost 0-1 to FC Lisse. With that, the team of trainer Fred de Boer got too little, because the Assenaren had deserved at least a draw. The victory makes Lisse the new leader in the Third Division. After seven games unbeaten, ACV has to face another defeat.
ACV has been in good shape in recent weeks. The team of trainer Fred de Boer lost to GOES for the last time on March 8, 0-2. After that, ACV won 4 times and drew three times. But opponent FC Lisse was in second place with 46 points prior to the game and is still in the race to become champion of the Third Division.
The early stages of the match were quite tame. Lisse got no further than a weak shot from Justin van der Putten, while goalkeeper Lisse keeper Cummins was not impressed by a shot from Boy Spijkerman.
After half an hour Lisse got a big chance out of nowhere. A long throw-in ended up on the head of David Verweij, who actually hit the post. Everyone in Assen woke up with a start, because not much happened until that moment. Then ACV had the chance to make it 1-0. A nice measured pass from Gijs Jasper landed on Spijkerman’s head, who headed hard to the ground, after which the ball landed on the crossbar.
In the second half, ACV remained easy on its feet. It didn’t really get great chances, although the linesman’s flags in a dangerous attack by Spijkerman were debatable.
FC Lisse’s 0-1 came out of the blue. Goalkeeper Wormmeester was not convincing and was able to punch the high ball with one fist. Then Enzo Stroo headed into an empty goal. ACV still tried, Cummins fumbled at a Justin Mulder cross. Niels Grevink was knocked down by the goalkeeper in the final phase, but the referee ruled that it was not a penalty. That left it 0-1.
Despite the defeat, ACV remains in tenth place in the Third Division. The day after tomorrow, another tough opponent awaits, because the Assenaren are allowed to visit Sparta Nijkerk, the team that was still the leader this morning.
