FC Union, Belfodil came on after a good 20 minutes for the injured Steven Jovetic and later provided the assist for Herthan’s only goal through an own goal by Timo Baumgartl.

According to information from the newspaper, a lack of will and a lack of body language in the relegation battle are said to be the reasons for Magath’s decision not to consider Belfodil for the important game in Augsburg. Those responsible had doubts about the professional’s readiness for action.

Belfodil not in the squad? Hertha BSC initially did not comment

Belfodil switched from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to the Spree in August last year for a fee of 500,000 euros. Since a knee operation in autumn 2019, the 18-times Algerian national player had not been able to play in the starting eleven in Kraichgau. In the past three years, Belfodil’s market value has fallen from 15 to 1.7 million euros. The right-footed player has scored three goals in 23 Bundesliga games for the Berliners since his move. However, he only ran the full 90-minute distance twice this season.

Until the official announcement of the line-up, they would not usually release any information about the squad, Hertha said on Saturday on request. Magath recently said with a view to the upcoming tasks in the relegation battle: “There are no more excuses. We need this fight and commitment now.” For Belfodil, Davie Selke could move up the storm against Augsburg.
