“Our brand name is goodsociety and we write it in one word because that’s exactly what we mean and live by,” explains owner Dietrich Weigel. The denim brand, which was founded in the USA in 2007 and is now based in Germany, stands for sustainability, quality and social responsibility. The label’s slogan, “be good to yourself”, is an invitation to treat yourself and your environment with care and respect. The label strives to offer the best possible product without causing unnecessary harm. From slim fit to boot cut, the brand sells jeans in a modern and minimalist design for women and men.

origins

goodsociety was born out of the idea of ​​rethinking fashion with a focus on people and the environment. The brand was taken over by Dietrich Weigel from Hamburg in 2012 and the company headquarters were moved to Germany. Since the 80s he has had the desire to combine sustainability with quality and timeless design, which became reality with goodsociety.

“When goodsociety started in 2007 in the USA and in 2012 in Europe with organic cotton, vegan equipped, detox-washed and socially ethical jeans, some people thought we were extraterrestrials with ideological fantasies,” Weigel recalls. In the meantime, the sustainable brand has come a long way.

In 2012, Greenpeace started its Detox campaign, which went public in 2014. goodsociety had already started working according to Detox guidelines in 2007. In addition, in 2012, the company was the first denim brand in the world to be PETA certified and carbon neutral.

goodsociety focuses on quality and sustainability. From the selection of materials to production, all steps are based on these two principles. After a temporary production site in Italy, the manufacture of denim products was relocated to Tunisia in 2019. There, the brand works with a family-run company that carries out all production steps up to the finished jeans.

According to the label, the jeans are made from 100 percent high-quality organic cotton, which is primarily sourced from countries such as India, Pakistan and Turkey. goodsociety attaches great importance to the fact that its partners share their own philosophy and code of conduct to protect the environment and the health of individuals.

Current

goodsociety is primarily distributed through retailers to maintain respect for people and the value of personal interactions. The brand’s products are available from sustainability-oriented concept stores and mostly owner-managed fashion retailers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as from various online shops and the company’s own website.

For the future of goodsociety, some important developments are planned in relation to supply chain and economy for the common good. “It’s time to bring some wonderful changes to market and continue to inspire decision makers to make real changes that will allow us to live in peace with one another and so our kids can say, ‘Cool, look, our parents were great,’” says Weigel.
