Tadej Pogacar was in impressive form in the last tough test before the start of the Tour de France. But the final preparation for the highlight of the cycling calendar is quite unclear, as he revealed after his overall victory at the Tour de Suisse.
The serious fall of his partner Urska Zigart at the Tour de Suisse has an impact on the final phase of Tadej Pogacar’s preparation for the Tour de France.
“I still have to decide. I’ve changed a lot of plans in the last few weeks. “Now that Urska has to recover, her plans and mine have been thrown overboard,” the Slovenian told “Cycling Pro Net” after his overall victory in the Tour of Switzerland: “Now we’re going to tackle plan number three, but maybe we’ll need number four in a few days.”
The most important thing, Pogacar emphasized, is “that we stay together in the next few days. Then we’ll see what happens.”
Tour de France: Pogacar relies on selective training sessions
Urska Zigart fell on a speed bump at high speed on the second stage last Thursday. The 29-year-old hit her head violently on the asphalt and was also taken to hospital with a suspected concussion. A broken jaw was diagnosed there.
The couple lives in Monaco, from where Tadej Pogacar will do “smaller, specific training sessions” in the remaining days until the start of the big France loop: “I don’t think you can add too much now anyway. There are only ten days or just under two weeks left until the start. There’s not much you can do with the travel and media appointments in advance.”
The overall preparation with his team for the tour, where he is aiming for his fifth title, was “very good”: “We have put a lot of work behind us. And I am happy that the training has paid off before the tour.”
