The Nerazzurri make the same request made to Barcelona: awaiting the opinion of the new coach

There is still a Spanish wind blowing in the direction of Milan and whispering in Alessandro Bastoni’s ear. But if three months ago he arrived from Barcelona, this time he dies from the capital, directly from Madrid, because Real are thinking about the Inter defender again. The two clubs recently talked about the transfer of Denzel Dumfries – through payment of the clause, included in the Dutchman’s contract, worth 20 million – and they met again a few days ago, in Spain, for the “Corazon Classic Match”, a charity match between the Legends of the two teams. The prestigious appointment which brought back Javier Zanetti, among others, to the Santiago Bernabeu, was also useful for a chat between presidents. The newly (re)elected Florentino Perez had lunch together with Beppe Marotta, head of this latest Inter expedition together with the club’s former champions, and this discussion regarding Bastoni also crept into the dialogues. Inter expressed absolute approval for the player whose contract expires in 2028 and who the Nerazzurri value at no less than 70 million. The same minimum quota from which they would not have dropped in the negotiation with Barcelona.

The right amount

The clubs that approach Inter for Bastoni may therefore change, but the Nerazzurri’s requests certainly do not waver by a single euro. Also because the left-footed defender is considered an important asset for the club and team and replacing him would not be very simple. At the same time, however, Inter, as when Barça were on Bastoni, still consider the realistic possibility of getting rid of him for the right amount and under the most satisfactory conditions and then returning to the market with a much different budget. A possible sale of the former Atalanta player to Real Madrid for 70 million would inevitably change (and not a little) the entire Inter transfer market session and the Biscione’s plans for next season. But it will remain to be seen where this white approval will lead towards a player who comes from a winning season – given the two titles won – but also controversial due to the Inter-Juventus events which followed him for a long time and had somewhat pushed him to consider a farewell to Serie A as had never happened before in his career. The demonstrations of affection and closeness from his fans have never been lacking and these seemed to have made those ghosts and that desire for a change of scenery disappear.

The last word

In Madrid, the re-election of Florentino at the helm of the club also brought José Mourinho back to the heart of Spain, ready to resume a conversation interrupted thirteen years ago. The official announcement of his return has already arrived with great fanfare together with other new arrivals for the club such as Cucurella from Chelsea, Konatè and Bernardo Silva and the aforementioned Dumfries, in fact a forerunner to heat up the Milan-Madrid axis again in this summer of transfer market. However, the Portuguese has not yet taken office and the final word on the Bastoni operation will still be his. But at the moment there are interesting conditions for this deal to go through and possibly change a part of Madrid’s defense and the face of Inter’s transfer market which, upon entry, still has several situations at stake and to be closed.

Motivations

For Real, Bastoni would be a profile who is not only flexible but also with experience at an international level (61 appearances in total between the Champions League and Europa League) considered capable of adapting perfectly to the new reality with a coach, with whom he would share the Nerazzurri colours, who certainly has no shortage of ambitions. This is the basis of Real Madrid’s reflections and motivations which could become more solid than those of Barcelona; on the Inter side, Bastoni is one of those elements of the squad that the club would fundamentally not want to be deprived of, but who under certain conditions could let him leave after 298 appearances, 8 goals and 9 trophies won from 2021 to the last Scudetto-Coppa Italia double of last season with Cristian Chivu on the bench. A farewell to Bastoni, however, as mentioned, would lead to a revision of Inter’s plans for entry. Zooming in on the defense, there is always the Oumar Solet issue at stake with Udinese waiting for nothing other than the revival of the Nerazzurri (at 25 million), but the Frenchman of the Friulians alone would not be able to fill this void. Returning to the market would therefore become inevitable, but with 60 million more everything would be easier.
