What started as a fun night out ended in a fight for two 17-year-old boys from Eersel on Saturday. They were standing outside a cafe in Reusel when a group of underage boys started hitting them, they say. “I have a black eye and my nose bone is probably bruised,” says one of the victims.

The reason for the violence? The 17-year-old boy, who wants to remain anonymous, does not know that. “My best buddy and I were out with some friends,” he says. “We were having a drink inside a cafe. My friend went outside for a moment.”

When the boy walks behind him, he already sees a group standing near his friend. He recognizes one of them from high school. “That boy walked menacingly towards my friend. Before that, it turned out he had already punched my buddy in the stomach.”

Beaten in several places
He says he stands between his friend and the other boy and pushes him away, but the boy keeps coming back. “And then he pushed me to the ground. I don’t remember what exactly happened after that. After a few blows it became black before my eyes.”

According to his friends who saw it happen, he was beaten by two boys. He was hit in several places. His friend immediately called the police. Officers arrested one underage boy, a spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.

Bruises on face
“I have a black eye, my left cheek was swollen, I have bruises on my neck and my nose bone is probably bruised,” the victim sums up. “My boyfriend still gets stitches in his stomach every now and then. That bothers him, even at work.”

The boys have filed a report. The police are still investigating. “This must show what the cause or circumstances of the incident were, whether other people were involved and whether the suspect is also the perpetrator,” says a spokesperson.

Young people have been causing nuisance for some time
The police cannot yet comment on the victim’s story. “A little after midnight, officers received a report of a possible assault in which two gentlemen were allegedly beaten,” is all the spokesperson can say. “We found the victims on site and there were visible injuries.”

There has been nuisance from a group of young people in the Reusel area for a long time. In April, six underage boys were arrested for possible involvement in abuse. Three more arrests of boys under the age of 18 followed at the end of May.
