Giro Next Gen, third stage and pink jersey for the Belgian Schoofs

A 149 kilometer breakaway gives Jasper Schoofs his first stage success at the Giro Next Gen Carta Giovani Nazionale and the pink jersey, the third different one in as many days of racing. Schoofs was part of a four-way attempt together with Diego Casagrande, Matteo Vanhuffel and Simone Zanini, the nephew of former pro Stefano. The action reached a maximum advantage of 3’33” and was managed even when, after the acceleration of the group on the ascent of Viggiano, the margin was reduced to less than 40″. Despite the group’s strong comeback, the pacesetters, who remained three after Casagrande’s collapse, managed to play for success at Villa d’Agri in Marsicovetere. In the final, Schoofs got the better of Zanini and Vanhuffel while Daan Dijkman regulated the sprint of the chasing group, which reached the finish line with the same time as the winner.
