USA-PARAGUAY
The United States started the World Cup on home soil with a resounding 4-1 victory against Paraguay. Folarin Balogun claimed the leading role with two goals. President Donald Trump had already dreamed aloud of the world title in advance.
Halle Berry, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, David and Victoria Beckham… The SOFi Stadium was packed with world stars. Only President Donald Trump was not there. He was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Hollywood at the World Cup, in Los Angeles! That’s entertainment of the highest order.
Pop star Katy Perry and rapper Future pre-hosted the show during the opening ceremony. And the players took over from the first whistle.
The match got off to a dream start for the Americans. After just seven minutes, Mauricio Pochettino’s team took the lead after an own goal by Damian Bobadilla. The Paraguayan defender unfortunately tapped a pass from Weston McKennie into his own goal.
The early goal gave the home team wings and just after the half hour, just after the first drinks break, the ball hit the net a second time via Folarin Balogun, who was able to tap in from close range on a pass from star player Pulisic.
Just before that, a goal from the same Balogun had been disallowed for offside. In extra time, the Monaco striker signed for his second goal after a nice individual action with a kick in the square. This allowed the Americans to enter the changing rooms with a reassuring lead.

In a second half with hardly any tension, substitute Mauricio saved the honor for Paraguay in the 73rd minute, but they did not get any closer. Giovanni Reyna, also a substitute, recorded the 4-1 final score deep into injury time.
Trump’s phone
Hollywood in a festive mood. The American Dream is getting closer again. Also with their president, who already dreams of the highest possible. Trump called American national coach Pochettino before the match.
“I just wanted to say that you are a fantastic man and coach,” the president said, as the other players listened over the loudspeaker. “I also know how great the players are. I think you have a great chance of winning the title.”
“Thank you for your support, Mr. President,” Pochettino responded. “We are going to do everything we can to make you and the people proud.”
Then that 4-1 can already count.
