The double ex, a life at Udinese and a spell at the Nerazzurri, advises Marotta and Ausilio: “Oumar is from the Premier League: it almost seems that in Serie A he gets bored every now and then. And then he attacks, bypassing everyone”
Felipe Dal Bello took the path in reverse: from Inter to Udinese, after having spent his entire youth career and the first 8 years of Serie A in Friuli. In any case, two environments that the Brazilian defender knows well. And a past that allows Felipe to best advise Solet, the Juventus giant who could move to Inter from Udinese. “When I saw Oumar for the first time in person I was impressed: two meters of a man all muscles, he’s scary – says Felipe -. And yes, he is definitely from Inter. But also from the Premier League, as the level of Serie A has dropped. I would see him well at Manchester United…”.
How much did you follow Solet during his years in Italy?
“I would say a lot: last year I acted as a commentator for UdineseTv and I observed him in several matches. I immediately understood that he is a profile of a top team. The demands on defenders in recent years have changed a bit, but he is complete: devastating in pressing, incredible in dribbling, he knows how to feint and skip past opponents. He has incredible facility in this. On the other hand, however, he sins a bit in the purely defensive phase, in his readings: he must be more pessimistic, sniff the risk, better evaluate whether to take the responsibility of pushing forward at the risk of conceding a goal.”
This is the criticism that is often leveled at him: too offensive for a defender.
“Every now and then it almost seems like he gets bored, that without a little titillation he feels the need to go too far in attack. He is a player of perspective: he will have to adapt to Inter’s requests and above all improve the aspect of attention within matches.”
Do you think Solet would immediately become a starter at Inter?
“Yes. He wouldn’t suffer from the big leap to a big club, he has a great personality: he would play right from the start. Udinese gave him continuity back after the seasons in Salzburg, exactly what he needed. The management of the club was impeccable, now he’s ready.”
Did you also have the opportunity to understand him on a character level?
“It seems to me that everything slides over him, when I was young I also experienced criticism like this. If he is criticized after one match, in the next one he doesn’t care. You have to understand if it’s arrogance or excessive confidence, a very fine limit. But in my opinion it’s just a question of personality. The fact of not letting himself be influenced by external voices, for a defender, is very positive. At Inter the pressure will certainly be different, but with this baggage he won’t have problems.”
What assessment would you make of Solet?
“He plays left and right, he’s technical and quick, he still has 7-8 years of career ahead of him: it also depends on the competition, but for today’s market, getting him for 20-25 million would be a bargain.”
