The return to Formula 1 is still a long time coming, but there is a new job: After things have been rather quiet around former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner in the last few weeks, there are now two new developments.
Christian Horner has not yet returned to the big Formula 1 stage, but his new job suggests that the former Red Bull team boss is still aiming for a comeback in the premier class.
According to information from the British magazine “Business Matters”, the 52-year-old was hired by the British investment fund “Oakley Capital”. From now on he will act as an advisor for all investments that flow into professional sports. CEO Peter Dubens said Horner and his investment team were tasked with identifying lucrative deals for the company.
Renault is currently not negotiating with Christian Horner
There is no direct connection to Formula 1, but there is still an indirect trace. The reason is the Alpine shares of “Otro Capital”, which holds 24 percent of the racing team and would like to get rid of this package. Horner was linked to this deal a few months ago. The Briton could now get another chance through his new job.
Renault boss Francois Provost also told the “Press Association” that there are currently no negotiations with Horner. “As of today there are no discussions with Christian,” said the person in charge. The options are currently being evaluated, said the Frenchman, who will decide together with the Renault management to whom the “Otro Capital” shares can be transferred.
Just a few weeks ago there was much to suggest that Mercedes would win the contract. The Silver Arrows were about to acquire the 24 percent, but then backed out because “Otro Capital” was asking too high a price. “I saw that there were no further discussions with Mercedes. I wasn’t so satisfied that we weren’t making progress there,” said Provost meaningfully.
