In the first full season under Niko Kovac, BVB had the fifth best Bundesliga season in the club’s history. This is also why the trainer should extend his contract. The interest is mutual, but not unconditional.

As “Sport Bild” reports, there has already been an initial exchange between Niko Kovac and BVB in which an extension of his working paper was discussed. As of now, the coach is entering his final year of contract.

Sports director Lars Ricken and sports director Ole Book are said to have been present at the exchange. The latter in particular seems to be impressed by Kovac and even defended the less spectacular but successful style of play that BVB displayed in the previous season.

Everyone agrees that there is a lot of room for improvement here. According to the report, everyone involved is committed to a playful development. So there is a lot of unity between black and yellow.

According to “Sport Bild”, Niko Kovac still has one condition for a possible contract extension: he demands new additions who can significantly raise the team’s level.

BVB: Kovac has great ambitions internally

These demands come for good reason. Because while Kovac made a reserved impression on the outside, he is said to be much more ambitious internally.

For this purpose, among other things, an attacking midfielder is needed. The departure of Julian Brandt creates a gap there. Although Brandt was never unchallenged, his numbers, with eleven scorers in the league, still spoke in favor of the 30-year-old. He needs to be replaced.

However, BVB has to be patient in its search for well-known new signings. Even though Ole Book has recently emphasized several times that he wants to acquire a new offensive player as soon as possible, not much is happening on the transfer market yet.
