Danish star Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch on Sunday in a friendly match against Ukraine.
Team doctor Morten Boesen told Denmark’s TV2 that Eriksen is now doing well and is conscious and on his feet.
Eriksen experienced a similar scary situation at the European Championships in 2021 in a match against Finland. At that time, his heart stopped in the middle of the match. However, the Dane has been able to continue his career with the help of a pacemaker.
Team mate and captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg recounted moments of horror for Denmark’s TV2.
– How I feel is irrelevant. The most important thing is that Christian is fine. We talked in the locker room. It feels strange to say that this brings back memories. The most important thing is that the case was handled well. Everyone showed respect. We are grateful for that, he said.
Højbjerg said he was moving on the pitch towards the touchline when Eriksen collapsed to the surface of the pitch.
– Then I turn to look and see that Cristian is lying on the field. The reaction is quick and respectful. Thanks to those who took care of him.
– I can’t really say anything other than that you are in shock, and I don’t want to say more. The most important thing is that Christian is fit and the players are treated the right way. We are supporting Christian’s family and each other. We are all human and react in our own way. I have to go to my children and family now.
