Kim Clijsters stops tennis for the third time | Tennis

“I would like to inform you that I have decided to no longer participate in official tournaments. I can’t wait to see what new adventures come my way,” Clijsters said on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the past two years.”

“It had been haunted in my head for a while to stop,” says Clijsters. “I still love the game. Training three to four times a week was enough to keep the rhythm, but clearly not enough to play tournaments anymore. If I had to play a tournament in Australia, I would be away from home for three to four weeks. That is not possible at the moment in my family life.”

The former number 1 in the world already retired once in 2007 because she was hampered by injuries. In 2009, now mother of a daughter, she returned to the track to win the US Open within a month. She then called it quits in 2012, with four Grand Slam victories under her belt.

Clijsters initially had to postpone her second return due to a knee injury. Even after that, her new comeback – due to some injuries and the corona pandemic – never really got off the ground. Since her return to the Dubai tournament in 2020, she has only played five games. She lost all five.
