This Ukrainian dog has been waiting for a deceased owner for weeks

One reddit-user posted a video of the white-and-brown dog standing guard at the top of the stairs of her and Tatyana’s house.

Dog in Ukraine continues to wait for owner

Volunteers have tried to take Rini to a shelter. In vain: the four-legged friend is only interested in the food they brought with them. The dog continues to wait for her owner’s return. It is unknown whether the latter is still alive.

Hachiko

The story is reminiscent of that of Hachiko, the akita of the Japanese professor Hidesaburo Ueno. Every day, Ueno took the train from Shibua station to the University of Tokyo. For a year Hachiko walked with him in the morning and in the afternoon to take him away and pick him up again. Even after Ueno died of heart failure, the akita continued to return to the station daily.

Even when he got a new owner, he regularly escaped in hopes of finally meeting Ueno again at their regular meeting place. In total, Hachiko has maintained this for nine years, nine months and fifteen days. He died at his well-known spot at the station at the age of eleven.

A film was made about that dog in 2009: Hachi: A Dog’s Talestarring Richard Gere.
