Times Square was rocked by a huge bang yesterday morning. Images of people running through the streets are circulating on social media. The explosion was the result of a cable break. The break would have caused a fire in an underground pipe, after which an explosion occurred. There would be no damage to the buildings. The emergency services immediately arrived on the scene. No one was injured.
The number of underground explosions resulting in a fire is said to have more than doubled in New York in the past year. Last year, there were 6,104 incidents registered, the New York board reports.
