Maarten Heijmans wins Willem Wilmink Prize for best children’s song

Give me some skin, which is sung by Maarten Heijmans, among others, has been voted best children’s song. The song won the Willem Wilmink Prize on Sunday evening in the Grote Kerk in Enschede.

The song was written by Jurrian van Dongen and composed by Keez Groenteman. Heijmans sings it together with Rop Verheijen and Jesse Mensah. The song was one of 77 entries for the prize and, according to the jury, is “a tender plea for each other, wonderfully topical after two years of keeping one and a half meters away”.

The audience award was won by Robert Ramaker with his song De machinist. It was previously announced that composer, musician and theater maker Dirk Scheele is the winner of the Buma Kindermuziekprijs, an oeuvre prize that was awarded for the first time this year.

The Willem Wilmink Prize, named after the poet and writer of the same name, was awarded for the eighth time. The prize consists of a work of art and a cash prize of 3000 euros for the lyricist, 1000 euros for the composer and 1000 euros for the performing artist. The prize previously went to Henny Vrienten, Katinka Polderman and Kenny B, among others. The Willem Wilmink Prize is an initiative of Wilminktheater and Muziekcentrum Enschede, supported by Buma Cultuur.
