Turnstile’s ex-guitarist Brady Ebert is charged with first-degree murder. He hit Brendan Yates’ father – now he faces life in prison.

Ex-Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert could now be sentenced to life in prison. He has not been with the band since 2022 and recently made serious, unsubstantiated allegations against the other members, including sexual misconduct. The reason for the impending prison sentence: On March 29th he hit frontman Brendan Yates’ father with his car.

According to the Baltimore Banner, Ebert is now facing charges – and not just for attempted murder. The jury has since upgraded the charge so that he now has to answer for premeditated murder.

This also changes the possible sentence. In the case of manslaughter, up to 30 years in prison would have been possible. But with the new classification this could mean a life sentence for the musician.

Ebert drove up to Yates in front of his house

Brady Ebert hit William Yates, the father of his former bandmate, in front of his house and seriously injured him. The 79-year-old was immediately taken to hospital and survived the incident. According to Ebert, he acted in self-defense because William Yates allegedly attacked him.

However, the video footage shows Ebert driving to the Yates family home, honking and insulting the family. William Yates can then be seen approaching the vehicle and throwing a stone. Ebert then reverses his car and then drives forward again until he meets his father. According to media reports, he said that the 79-year-old “deserved it”. Legally, the act is considered intentional and is not classified as self-defense.

Gymnastics comments on the incident

The band took to social media following the attack to speak out about their relationship with their former guitarist: “After exhausting every resource available to help him get help and recovery, we finally had to draw the line when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence. In the years since, his baseless public attacks have continued. We have never addressed them. We have chosen to protect his privacy and the circumstances of his departure, even though he had done nothing to warrant that protection “In recent months, his threats have only escalated to a physical attack when Brady drove to Brendan’s parents’ home and ran over Brendan’s father, seriously injuring him. We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived and made it through the operation and wish him the best possible recovery.”
