FC Bayern Basketball and Alba Berlin are in a thrilling final series for the championship. Now the champion has been determined. The people of Munich are experiencing a game to forget.

Julian Buhl reports from Munich

After a dramatic fifth final game and an 81:84 defeat against Alba Berlin, the FC Bayern Basketball lost the German championship title in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).

Bayern had actually already led 2-1 in the best-of-five series. After the second championship match ball was awarded in a row, the Munich team awarded the championship title in the final showdown in Munich SAP But still garden.

This means that the season for the Bayern basketball players ends completely without a title and thus ultimately in a debacle. They also awarded the title in the BBL Cup in their own hall in the spring after a terrible semi-final exit. And the FCBB was also unable to meet its high international standards in the Euroleague season, in which the playoffs were clearly missed.

Bayern were already 20 points ahead

Bayern were actually already leading by 20 points at halftime, 47:27. After the Berlin team got off to a good start in the third quarter, the game ended completely. In the final quarter, Alba took the lead again for the first time just five minutes before the end (72:70) and immediately extended it to five points (75:70). In the final seconds, a real basketball thriller developed – with the better ending for Berlin.

Bavaria President Herbert Hainer and his predecessor Uli Hoeness watched the drama in the front row, right on the sidelines. The top scorer with 24 points was once again the outstanding captain, world and European champion Andreas Obst. It didn’t help. With him, Bayern want to attack again in all competitions next season. A new head coach, former champion captain Anton Gavel, is also set to move from Bamberg to Munich. He is supposed to replace 76-year-old Svetislav Pesic, who is now retiring without the championship title. However, a solution still needs to be found first Zoff about a possible transfer fee for Gavel to find.
