The Limburg Parliament has unanimously adopted a motion by the PVV to work on a campaign to improve the image of healthcare.
The motion calls on the provincial government to urge the government to set up an image campaign. It must also argue in The Hague for a much better salary and a reduction in work and regulatory pressure for employees in care and nursing.
First applause, now silence
At the same time, the provincial government must free up money to start an image campaign at the provincial level as well. This must be done together with partners in care and secondary and higher vocational education in Limburg. PVV party chairman René Claassen pointed out in an explanation of the motion that the influx of new staff in care is declining and the turnover is high. “A trend break is needed. We cannot stand by and let it all happen. After the people in care were clapping en masse at the start of the corona pandemic, it has become deafeningly quiet,” said Claassen.
Healthcare demand is increasing
The adopted motion also points out that the demand for care is increasing, as is its severity. This certainly applies to the older inhabitants of Limburg, it says. Due to the shortage of staff, the requested care cannot always be provided. Reference is also made to the increasing regulatory burden, which means that less actual care can be provided.
Deputy Stephan Satijn (VVD) was fine with the motion. He pointed out that on the basis of a motion passed earlier, there is money for a provincial image campaign. “And we will also send out a signal nationally,” says Satijn.
