Kate Middleton loves to pay homage to the female figures of the British monarchy. After the three-strand pearl necklace dedicated to Queen Elizabeth, the Princess of Wales paid homage to Lady Diana by drawing on her own precious jewelry collection. The institutional occasion? On April 25, 2026 during the annual celebrations ofANZAC Day: day commemorating all Australians and New Zealanders who lost their lives in war and pays tribute to all who served.
Kate Middleton, the look by Alexander McQueen
Kate debuted a new navy coat dress signed Alexander McQueendesigned by Sarah Burton. The silhouette, defined by contrasting white lapels, enveloping line and structured shouldersdraws a precise and sophisticated, almost sculptural figure. The accessories follow the same impeccable line: custom made percher hat by jane taylor, pumps by Gianvito Rossi and the “Nano Montreal” mini bag by DeMellier. To illuminate the whole, a refined tanzanite and diamond pendant signed G.Collins & Sons.
The tribute to Lady Diana
The most significant detail of the look was the tribute to Lady Diana. The earrings with sapphires and diamonds that belonged to the princess they were the most evident symbol of this homage. But not only: the entire outfit seemed to be inspired by a look Diana wore in 1995 during an official visit to Germany. At the time, the former Princess of Wales had chosen a blue suit with white lapels very similar, combined with a wide-brimmed hat and light belt.
The history of sapphire earrings
These earrings date back to the 1980s and are part of the famous sapphire set and diamonds of Diana. Originally, the stones were part of a brooch which had been given to her shortly before her marriage to Carlo. Diana had the jewel transformed subsequently: the brooch was dismantled and reinterpreted in several pieces, including the double cluster pendant earrings. A choice that tells a lot about him personal style, always capable of reinventing the codes of royal jewellery. The earrings are made with oval sapphires framed by diamonds, in perfect harmony with one of the most famous jewels in the world: Diana’s engagement ring, today on Kate’s finger. This creates a direct line between past and presentstrengthening the symbolic value of the set.
Mermaid hair: the real contemporary turning point
If tailoring looks to the past, it is the hair that makes the difference. Kate chose the sue now iconic soft waves effect “mermaid”: long, shiny and fluidwith the front locks slightly gathered to frame the face and enhance the hat. A stark contrast to Diana’s signature ’90s short, voluminous cut, which marks the breaking point between inspiration and reinterpretation.
