The soft drink tax entered into force on April 1. We found out how the tax increase is visible on store shelves. We compared the prices of the sims in Iltalehti’s sim test last year with the prices of the same products this year.

The aim of the tax increase is to direct consumption and production from drinks with a high sugar content to drinks with less sugar.

This is how the prices have changed

This is how the soft drink tax affects the price of sima

Other fermented beverages (e.g. cider, perry and mead), mixtures of fermented beverages and mixtures of fermented beverages and non-alcoholic beverages, not elsewhere classified: (alcohol content over 0.5% by volume) – alcohol content not more than 1.2% by volume, but not mixtures of beer and non-alcoholic beverages – this tax has now increased from 20 to 59 cents per liter. The amount of the tax is related to the amount of sugar. The tax on sugar-free products is 20 cents per liter. If there are more than 11 grams of sugar in 100 milliliters, the tax is 59 cents per liter.
