The Austrian national team has planning security regarding Ralf Rangnick’s future before the start of the World Cup. The much sought-after head coach has extended his expiring contract until the end of the 2028 European Championship. The ÖFB officially announced this on Saturday evening.

Rangnick has been in office in Austria since June 2022, but left his future open until the end. Most recently – as in 2020 – there was speculation about a commitment to AC Milan, where he should have taken on a role other than that of coach as part of the change.

Instead, he continues the successful path at the ÖFB, which he led to their first World Cup participation since 1998. In Group J next week we will first face outsiders Jordan (June 17th), followed by world champions Argentina (June 22nd) and Algeria (June 28th).

“I am very pleased that we can present this great news to our fans shortly before the start of the World Cup. It is an important signal of unity and common sporting goals. The clarity that has now been created is of great importance, especially for the team. My special thanks go to Ralf Rangnick. The fact that he has chosen Austria and his team shows how important this project is to him. It is a real matter of the heart for him,” said ÖFB supervisory board chairman Josef Pröll.
