FC Volendam says goodbye to bad series by winning against De Graafschap

After six games without a win, FC Volendam has again been able to add three points. De Graafschap was defeated 3-1 in Volendam after a nerve-racking match. Due to the victory, the eel farmers now have a four-point lead over number three FC Eindhoven.

It was immediately an open match at De Dijk. Jesse Schuurman hit the post within two minutes. FC Volendam had a hard time in the opening phase, but after thirteen minutes it was 1-0. Robert Mühren freed himself by cleverly tapping the ball past Ted van de Pavert. Face to face with goalkeeper Hidde Jurjus, the club’s top scorer made no mistake.

Strong phase De Graafschap

Because of the goal, Wim Jonk’s team suddenly had control over the game. Still it was 1-1. Mees Kaandorp received the ball on the right side of the penalty area and hit the far corner with a hard low shot.

After that, De Graafschap had the upper hand. At the end of the first half, the Superboeren also had the greatest chance of scoring 1-2. Damon Mirani made a mistake, after which Giovanni Korte was alone in front of FC Volendam keeper Filip Stankovic. The Serb kept the Volendam team going with a clever save.

Van Mieghem hurts old club

The break did Volendam well, because in the second company the home team had the better of the game. That also led to the 2-1 in the 55th minute. From a cross by Bilal Ould-Chikh, Daryl van Mieghem tapped in against his old club.

In the last half hour there were chances back and forth. Mirani headed a ball off the line, a shot by De Graafschap’s Danny Verbeek was blocked and on the other side substitute Franco Antonucci shot just wide after a quick attack.

Koen Blommestijn decided the game after 95 minutes by scoring from a counterattack.
