EU sanctions in force, but Russian coal ban for 120 days

The fifth package of sanctions against Russia, and partly also sanctions against Belarus, has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union. This means that the new sanctions for the Russian war and atrocities in Ukraine, supported by neighboring Belarus, are publicly and directly effective. However, an import ban on Russian coal will not come into effect until early August to give member states the time to phase out their contracts and arrange deliveries elsewhere.
