Michael van Gerwen again the best in the Premier League

Michael van Gerwen has won another round in the Premier League on Thursday. In Leeds he was 6-1 too strong for James Wade in the final. For the darts player from Vlijmen, the counter stands at three day victories after nine match days.

Van Gerwen reached the semi-finals without taking action himself. Gary Anderson, last in the prestigious darts tournament, had to unsubscribe from the ninth round due to a positive corona test. For Van Gerwen, himself the leader in the Premier League, that meant a regulatory 6-0 win and a place in the semi-finals.

In the semi-final battle, Peter Wright was his opponent. The Scot had to play in the quarterfinals. In the first game of the evening he simply dealt with Michael Smith: 6-2. It was a lot more difficult against Van Gerwen. It also didn’t work out with Mighty Mike, which made it a struggle for both darts players. It was the Dutchman who in the end did just that little bit better. With a low average, just above ninety, he managed to beat Wright: 6-3.

“It was hard work for both. It wasn’t sharp. But I win and that’s the most important thing,” said MvG after winning the semi-final in front of ViaPlay’s camera.

Van Gerwen had to face Wade in the final. A week ago, he lost in the first round to the Englishman, who was at the bottom at the time. Wade then won 6-2. Van Gerwen may have thought of it before the new meeting. If so, it gave him only positive energy. He got off to a good start and quickly took a 3-0 lead.

After Wade managed to put his name on the scoreboard with a won leg, Van Gerwen switched up a gear. He finished the race with an eleven-darter and recorded his third stage victory. In addition, he strengthened his lead in the Premier League.
