The fact that Noel Gallagher harbors a dislike for Harry Styles has been impressively demonstrated in the past. Now, in an interview, the former Oasis boss once again lashed out at the singer and hinted that he didn’t see Styles as a real songwriter.
“You’re not telling me that Harry Styles is in a room somewhere right now writing a song,” Gallagher said in the interview. “Without any joy, he’ll be surrounded by a lot of girls.” He added, “I can assure you he doesn’t have an acoustic guitar trying to write a middle eight for something.”
According to Gallagher, all of Styles’ fame stems from a television show, The X Factor, which “has nothing to do with music, it has nothing to do with music at all, and everything that came out of it has nothing to do with music.”
It’s not the first time Gallagher has spoken negatively about Styles. When he commented on the situation of his own generation in 2017, Styles was already caught in the verbal crossfire. “People my age have let themselves go, they’re fat, bald idiots with fading tattoos,” he said at the time. “They sit in their garage and write shit like ‘Sign of the Times’ for Harry Styles. Which honestly my cat could have written in about 10 minutes!”
He continued, “The song doesn’t bother me. My wife exploded, “Have you heard Harry Styles’ new song? It’s like Prince.’ I said, ‘Without even hearing it, I can assure you, it’s nothing like Prince!’” Styles hasn’t responded to either case.
Gallagher seems to have been bitter about the state of music for some time. In another recent interview, he claimed rock music is now a middle-class occupation, saying, “working-class kids can’t afford it now.”
