Jack White makes fun of Trump’s press conference. Garbage, Cat Power and more celebrate the snappy reckoning.
Jack White has once again dealt against Donald Trump. This time the occasion was a press conference in which the US President presented his achievements in the first year of his second term in office.
White posted a photo on Instagram of Trump holding up a stack of papers labeled “Accomplishments” at the press conference. In an amusing, satirical comment, the musician imitated a simplified manner of speaking and alluded to Trump’s demands for a Nobel Peace Prize and his ambitions for Greenland and Canada.
This satirical Instagram post is causing a stir
Specifically, White said: “I make achievements! Trump smart. Good boy deserves Nobel Peace Prize! Dementia? What is it? NO! Trump smart, passes brain test, names giraffe. I president of Venezuela and Canada. I also want Greenland for fun. Mom said Trump could have been a great baseball player, but also a big building with bars on windows. Building for very sick people. Trump not sick. Trump smart. MAGA. Very smart people made Trump president. Very smart people keep Trump as president. Now use fake, I mean real peace awards as a pillow.
Positive reactions from Garbage, Cat Power and Co.
The post received approval from several music industry colleagues, including Garbage, Margo Price, Butch Walker and Cat Power.
Jack White also responded to critical comments with a clear message: Users who suggested he concentrate on music would be blocked. He referred them to Trump supporters Ted Nugent and Kid Rock. He wrote in the comments section: “Anyone who comments ‘focus on music’ or anything like that will be blocked. Anyone who likes that comment will also be blocked. I’ll leave a few of them up so everyone knows why they were blocked. This is my house, not the marketplace. Ted Nugent and Kid Rock are certainly looking for more MAGA supporters, so I suggest you go to their pages. Thanks for your attention on this matter!”
Contents of the controversial press conference
During the press conference on Tuesday, January 20, Trump reportedly presented a folder titled “365 Wins in 365 Days.” Plus: He dedicated 15 minutes to the presentation for mugshots of people from Minnesota who were allegedly in the country illegally and accused of serious crimes.
Trump also falsely claimed to have helped end eight wars and renewed his call for a Nobel Peace Prize. He also joked about renaming the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of Trump” and made derogatory comments about Somali immigrants.
Not the first public confrontation
This is not Jack White’s first swipe at Trump. Last month, the former White Stripes member criticized the president for disrespectful comments about the late director Rob Reiner. White also described Trump’s redesign of the Oval Office as “vulgar and ostentatious.”
When communications director Steven Cheung then described Jack White as a “washed-up loser,” he countered that an insult from the White House under Trump’s leadership was an “award” for him.
More prominent voices against Trump
Jack White joins a growing list of artists who are publicly taking a stand against Trump. Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong made clear statements against the president at concerts and changed the lyrics of “American Idiot” to “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda.” During an appearance in London he also shouted: “There is too much damn hate in this world. We have to defend ourselves against this fascism.”
Bruce Springsteen also spoke out clearly against Trump and warned of the dangers to democracy. In a video before the last election, he said: “Donald Trump is the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime.” The singer emphasized that Trump respects neither the constitution nor the rule of law.
Billie Eilish declared during the last election: “We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our freedoms, our planet and our democracy.” She described it as important to use her voice against “extremism”.
